I was going to devote this entire blog to television shows, but there was a glare in my rearview mirror on the drive to work this morning.
This was literally (and i mean literally as in "literally," not literally as in "figuratively" like some people like to use it much to my chagrin) the first time in two weeks i had seen the sun. Just thought it warrants a mention.
And now on to television.
Started watching "Deal or No Deal" the other day. Really like the premise of the game, and enjoy factoring the odds and all that while watching.
But, bobdamn, do i hate the contestants.
I don't know how they find such annoying people and their very annoying friends and family. I start out interested in the game and playing along, but by the end i'm rooting against the contestant more than anything.
i don't know how long i can keep watching with such a high annoyance level.
Not much for reality television, but i rather enjoy Top Chef on Bravo. The two people i was rooting for were booted last night (althought i wasn't awake to see the end). Now i don't know if i want to watch next week's finale because i'm going to drop-kick a puppy if Marcel wins.
One of my favorite series of books, Jim Butcher's Dresden Files, is now a tv show on Sci-Fi.
don't like the dresden character. too rugged/macho looking. not nearly clumsy/funny enough. definitely a noticeable lack of humor in the show. to be an hour long, the first half should be a lot funnier.
not enough incidental magic stuff (yes, it's about a wizard). he needs to do more of the little stupid spells instead of just blabbering on about the high council then using some lame doom box at the end.
too much father/flashback stuff.
it was basically a detective show with a cop-out "blow the bad guy up" ending. needs to boost the cleverness factor a lot.
otherwise, it was watchable.
I made the mistake of letting Courtney watch Friday Night Lights several weeks ago. Now that I'm ready to quit watching it because of the unbelievable football stuff (although last night's episode was infinitely better as far as that goes), Courtney is addicted to all the soap opera crap involved.

i'm a sitcom man myself. "Earl," "Scrubs," "Everybody Hates Chris." Can't go wrong with any of them.
we're primarily medical drama types, House and Gray's Anatomy, although i think friday night lights has official entered "show we plan our night around" status, unfortunately. otherwise i'm either watching sports or the food network.
I thought I didn't watch a lot of TV, but now that I think about all the shows it really does add up fast. I used to have three shows on Thursday nights, but now I'm in class from 4-9, so oh, well. Our musts are 24 and House.
I watched Deal or No Deal with Kyle once. He was mostly stressed because of what I might do if I were on the show.
I like to watch TLC channel on Saturdays when I do housework--but now I have class from 12:30-3:30, so that'll end that. I like to watch sports shows during football season.
stupid me. I also watch Miami Ink.
I like Grey's Anatomy when it gets really intense. All the soap opera shit gets ridiculous. No one on that shows seems to know where to draw the line between professionalism and private lives. Like last week, when people would just walk into a room and open a conversation with "George turned into a sex machine."
And Dr. Bailey is a resident, right? What resident tells the chief of surgery how he's supposed to do his job so often?
And how many years do these other cats remain interns? Medical internships usually last one year, then they go into their residency. (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_intern). This is the third season these doctors have been interns!!!
Sorry. Got a little carried there away. I, too, watch Grey's.....I like it, but I hate it. If that makes any sense.
I'm also very interested to see what future blog entries you'll be able to include in this new "kicking puppies" category.
we're house kind of people as well.. how can you not be?
i also like me some desperate housewives, extreme makeover home edition, gray's, and a little deal or no deal. and if you've never seen one vs. 100, well, then puppies should be kicking you. that is by far my favorite game show on tv today.
oh, and i'm also a big american idol junkie- and way too proud of it. i know there are more, but eventually i'll begin to look like i have no life, so we'll just leave it at that.
house, however, is the only show i pretty much plan my schedule around. tuesday nights 'round here is house & pizza rolls night.
oh and i've never seen top chef, but i've heard good things.
